He suggested that Canada could become the 51st U.S. state, with Trudeau serving as its governor, and proposed that hockey legend Wayne Gretzky should run for Prime Minister. Gretzky, who has no political experience, reportedly showed no interest in the idea. However, his wife posted this on Instagram on Dec. 26th:

These comments come amid tensions over trade policies, with Trump threatening to impose a 25% tariff on Canadian goods. Trudeau has warned that such tariffs would devastate Canada's economy. In response, Canadian officials, including Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc and Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly, have engaged in discussions with the incoming Trump administration to address border security and trade concerns.
